My favourite Surf Curse project. Forever Dumb is one of my favourite songs ever it's just so consistent and loose, I really can't go wrong listening to it.
My soft-spot for this band really shows here. This is not as good as other 100s but it's just good fun and has such a contagious raw energy to it.
Absolutely dreadful mix, even by demo standards, but still good fun and really charming. High School Blues is up there as an all-timer Surf Curse track. The hidden bonus track of Fire Walk With Me is also really good. Overall a great Surf Curse project and really fun.
Had really high hopes following the preview of Disc 2 Track 2. They were not met. It's too long and not concise enough.
Insanely good mix of an already incredible suite. This release could arguably be the greatest of all time.
I found Maruja through Quadeca's album and after listening to some of their music I became really exctied for 'Pain to Power'. Despite not following them for long, I had high expectations for the album and I'm happy to say they well and truly delivered on those expectations. This album is nothing short of incredible; the production, the playing, and particularly (for me, at least) the writing. The words spoken, rapped, and sung on this album and incredibly powerful and ... read more
As essential as Blood on the Tracks.
Dylan really didn't miss in this 1974-1976 stretch. I consider this a nice semi-companion piece to Blood on the Tracks and More Blood, More Tracks as they all offer their each own and unique versions of Blood on the Tracks material, here especially holds that excellent take of Shelter From the Storm. Additionally the Nashville Skyline tracks, Lay, Lady, Lay, and I Threw It All Away are really good - especially the latter which I prefer to the original.
Some of the song selections here are surprising, like The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll, but similar to 'Before The Flood', all these renditions are great. I do think his constant yelling voice is a little grading but it's a minor gripe when the music and performances are so good. I really like this version of Knockin' on Heaven's Door too the lyrics are great.
I really like Dylan's voice here and I think his renditions are great. I'm not too familiar with The Band's stuff but it all sounds great here. I really like this version of Rainy Day Women and hearing a Dylan-electric version of All Along the Watchtower is excellent.
This is a flawless live album. The first half has really tender guitar playing and really complements his vocals. The second half is snarky, entertaining, and theatrical.
Very solid album from JID here. Not to the level of The Forever Story however this is a fun, consistent, and inventive release. JID once again shows off his ability to find unique flows and then swtich up to even more obscure flows mid-verse on practically every song. The Clipse feature on Community was incredible; "What's missing in my hood I identified / Then I brought white to my hood shit I gentrified" is possibly bar of the year. Community, For Keeps, and Of Blue are my ... read more
Clipse have been outshined. Album of the year and it's not even close. This is insanely good. I can't believe I was able to see such beautiful evolution in real time from Quadeca. I found him when he dropped his 'Insecure' KSI diss and now look at him. This is incredible and one of the best pieces of work ever created.
I am amazed by how much I enjoyed this. I listened to the full version including the Isle of Wight show and it really adds depth to one of the most interesting era in Dylan's history. The 9/10 I'm giving it does not mean I think it is a near-flawless experience, though. My rating is based off the depth and insight this album gives into that era and also for the quality of the alternate versions and live performances. I would not recommend this unless you are REALLY interested in this ... read more
I did not like this album. I do not want to talk much about this one so I will say this: when I first heard the drums on this album I got very worried and continued to dislike it more and more. Why is Bob Dylan singing over these piercing and hard-hitting drums? These songs sound empty.
Very surprised by how much I enjoyed this. More blues, better writing, a cooler vibe; this is my favourite of the gospel albums. I'm not sure why it's not listed here but 'The Groom's Still Waiting At The Altar' should be remembered as a classic Dylan song.
Not bad. I haven't listened to 'Saved' but I do prefer 'Shot of Love' to this. 'Gotta Serve Somebody has unique production and is one of the best-written songs here. There's not much to say about this one I feel. It's certainly not bad and will be interesting for any somewhat-interested Dylan fan, though if this was someone's first Dylan album I'd not only be amazed but also feel very sorry for them if they think that this is the standard.
