Reading the old critic reviews for this album when it dropped is really funny because it's so obvious they completely missed the point of the music on this album. I wanted to like this. I really did. I gave it a fair shot. But this is, without question, Kevin's worst album under the Tame Impala banner so far. And it's not even because he went in the sonic direction he did, because Currents and The Slow Rush were already moving away from the psych rock of Innerspeaker and Lonerism and I absolutely love those two albums without reservation. I'll be honest, it had been quite some time since I listened to this album in full. When it first dropped, I was spinning it almost every hour of the day for several weeks, and I absolutely loved it at the time. But after having listened to it as much as I did, I definitely got sick of it and I simply did not go back to it for several years other than to listen to some spare tracks every now and then, and my mood on the album in general definitely soured a little bit.

Friend of mine recommended this to me and I can safely say this lands in the "not for me but still pretty good" category. I do think the lyrics can be pretty cringe at times but the instrumental performances and overall production is fairly well done IMO. I'd say this is good background music, and I don't mean that in a negative way whatsoever

I feel very biased towards this album so I can't give it an objective rating. Sure some of the songs on the B-side are weaker and that does hold it back from perfection, but my god when this album hits, it HITS. Truly the Return of the Jedi of this current Weeknd trilogy: not quite as consistently great as the previous two entries but still a good time with some incredible high points.

Quite possibly the most low-stakes album in Tyler's career and it still manages to be great. Ring Ring Ring immediately goes in the top 5 of Tyler songs all-time

Easily some of the most mature songwriting in Daniel's career so far matched with his silky smooth voice as always. Album does start to feel a little repetitive sonically near the end but it's still worth listening to, especially if you're into modern R&B and neo-soul.

Production can be a little too laid back for my liking at times but Earl is still an incredibly talented and witty rapper. Check it out if you're in your unc era
