Beach Music has some of Alex G’s highest highs and arguably lowest lows, but over time (for me at least) even the songs I initially didn’t like have started to grow on me (Brite Boy, Ready, In Love), and it all starts to feel a lot more cohesive.

Headlights is pretty much every other Alex G album: some really good songs, some you don’t like at first but grow on you over time, and a couple skips. That being said, this is one of his best produced albums and might be his most cohesive project yet front to back. His albums tend to be a little all over the place- which is part of the charm- and in some ways this one is, but the themes of each song flow together really well.

This album has a bunch of interesting production and ideas throughout. It’s ambitious and fascinating to listen to. That being said, it’s not the masterpiece like a lot of people on here claim it to be. A lot of the sounds on here feel derivative of other artists like Frank Ocean and Joji just to name a couple.
