I am trans.
It took me a long time to be able to say those words out loud. A long, difficult road filled with self doubt and hard reflection. During this period of my life I became infatuated by the work of Ezra Furman, and most specifically this record in particular. This is Ezra’s second release after her own transition (following 2019’s rage-fueled ‘Twelve Nudes’). It's one of those albums which attaches itself to you and makes you feel like it's being ... read more
Worse versions of some of the worst Mansun songs, performed by a guy who's voice is notably worse than it used to be. An inexplicable release.
The Antlers have always been one of the most intriguing bands. When they took an extended break after singer Peter Silberman suffered hearing loss, it seemed like the band would be unlikely to return. Their 2021 comeback album 'Green To Gold' was extremely welcome, and whilst a lovely listen, seemed to lack the ambience and drama that made them successful in the first place.
Step forward 'Blight'. This exquisite record is absolutely dripping with atmosphere. There's an ... read more

The downfall of Arcade Fire has been covered many times, but even given that it's quite shocking how much the band seem to have fallen since the glory days of Funeral and The Suburbs. This, their sixth album is wrought with problems right from the outset, and probably one of the year's most inconsequential releases.
Opening with a synth driven instrumental (inexplicably, one of three here) we're then led into the title track. The song, while sweet enough, lacks any kind of ... read more
Honestly I thought this was fantastic. I don't know why but I had assumed they were some kind of emo band, but this was more slacker indie rock. The singer sounds a bit like Julian Casablancas from The Strokes but the music is far more interesting. Got loads of points of reference, some Pixies, Pavement, and the 'Drugs With Friends' track sounded an awful lot like The Shins.
If I'm being really picky it is a little overlong, and it's frustrating that I've got to ... read more
