Another superstar in the making for Daptone.
At this point, it isn't much of a stretch to say that we are in a retro soul renaissance right now. Artists like Durand Jones and the Indications, Leon Bridges, Black Pumas, Thee Sacred Souls, and Aaron Frazer are just a few of the many new acts to revive soulful old sounds. Jalen Ngonda's 'Doctrine of Love' is among the best of this past decade's revivalist albums, with masterful homages to the likes of Marvin Gaye, Stevie ... read more
Evanescence once again delivers an album devoid of personality or variation.
I understand why Jordan Fish is receiving heaps of criticism for this. He's been on a pretty solid run of mediocrity since last year, and this album is no different. That said, it's not his fault that this record is boring. Evanescence just... isn't that good. This band has been writing the same song a dozen times on every album since 2003, and it's getting old. That said, I obviously can't hold it against April Harper Grey for not reaching the stratosphere twice. While this new style isn't exactly my favorite, I can recognize the quality on display here. This album uses the full range of audible frequencies to its advantage, with tracks like ... read more
Was this recorded in a bathroom? The mix and production are ATROCIOUS. The instrumental is fine I guess, a bit half-baked, but Joshwhatthefuckareyoudoing. I love this band, and I will always defend their output up to this point, but I can't defend this. Go back and try again.
