Hook continues to make unique trap/cloud music on her new EP. This project toys with a variety of sounds and styles within the production and Hook's vocal deliveries. Although the project doesn't do much for me at the beginning, it really hits its groove around "Brb" and maintains that high quality through the finish line.
This is essentially a breakup album. Hook talks mostly about heartbreak, jealousy, and anger as a result of failed relationships. Sometimes she lashes out, sometimes she reminisces. For the most part, she explores a very relatable set of emotions.
The instrumentals are unique but not necessarily trailblazing. Hook makes it clear that she has little regard for standard song structure-- her bars are short, her hooks are repetitive, and her deliveries are unpredictable. She pulls all of this off with an effortless charisma even when the production lags.
Not easy to come up with a rating for this one. I found it mostly enjoyable with a couple flops and a few excellent songs. I think she improved in some areas from her last release, "Crash My Car," but not significantly. I'd recommend this project to any trap fan who would like a fun change of pace.
