Earl Sweatshirt's newest album is a short and sweet listen, with Earl rapping over some chill beats. The production of this album is absolutely amazing with "FORGE" maybe being the song with my favorite production on the whole year. This album is 11 songs in 24 minutes and is such a quick and digestible listen. I think Earl did a good job at encapsulating this album perfectly with the cover: just something chill.
Unpopular Opinion: Alfredo 2 is slightly better than the first installment. This album feels almost the same as the first installment, but does it a tiny bit better. I don't like Freddie's singing on some songs, like "Feeling", but it's still not enough to lower my praises on this album.
Freddie Gibbs delivers some great rapping performances while The Alchemist produces some of the mostly heavenly beats I've heard Freddie rap on. The Alchemist utilizes some slight rock elements amazingly leaving an enjoyable listening experience. The features also add a lot to this album, with amazing performances from Rick Ross, Benny the Butcher, Tyler, The Creator, and Conway the Machine. I don't think this is a perfect album, as some seem to think, but it's damn close.
This album had a lot of highlights, with the lowlights not being low enough to consider this a bad album. By any means the people who say Travis went “17/17” need to share what they're smoking on, but this isn't as bad as some people are making it out to be.
This is obviously not a lyrical masterpiece, but not all music has to be, there's some music that you can just turn up to and have a good time. Whether that's the club, the gym, or just in the background.
