Pinned Review

Sufjan Stevens - Carrie & Lowell

I genuinely don’t know how to start this review but I do want to say to begin with that I did sob a bit while listening, a first.

I’ll preface this by saying that my home life isn’t the best as of now, especially with my mother and this album took me some time to appreciate and open up to, to understand the lyrics, but once I did, I loved it.

The whole thing as this calm and poetic feeling and sound that cuddles you, achieved through stunningly sparse production. He strips ... read more

I don’t know man. This didn’t leave me a whole lot. Sure it has highs and dopamine but I like my music with some development I guess? Like this could have been so much more interesting if he cut down to some 14 songs that had actual substance.
It’s not bad per se, just a bit better than bland and uninspired. Songs like LOVE YOU LESS, PIXELATED KISSES or Sojourn show perfectly the potential but they are surrounded in 1 or at most 2 minute tracks

It’s as if this were a ... read more

This album is so moody that it’s soo good to listen especially at night or while commuting

The album in general is very homogenous in the musical aspect but it works oh so well, with long repeating instrumental portions which make brooding a very enjoyable listen, and a very consistent one at that

Being one of the fundamental entries of the band most associated to Goth Rock I didn’t expect all of it to have this main idea of romance and tragic love but it does actually work really ... read more

Daft Punk - Random Access Memories

First thing first, I didn’t realize my dad was so based. I mean, he is one to have always hailed Daft Punk as a part of the most talented duos in all of music and I think he is so right for that.

This is one of the instances where their fame is so fuckin deserved, as this album became a super popular release with multiple hits and yet it’s not like other pop music, it’s not bland, like at all.

I personally enjoy how they were able to create a project that deals with a ... read more

Bittersweet - To Die, To Heaven, Farewell

Thanks a lot for the rec @Avery!

Alright I’ll preface this with the fact that ambient music, or drone for that matter, is not my favorite genres so I guess that my review won’t be the most unbiased.

That being said, “To Die, To Heaven Farewell” is an interesting effort. It has the ambitiousness of a professional and it works, with all its problems.

It works because the story it tries to tell makes sense even though it may be a little convoluted and not the ... read more

First off, thanks a lot to YUMESNC for the recommendation, I had a very pleasant couple of evenings with this in the background.

Now, all the songs have this oniric feeling to them that I think give off this sentiment that’s almost similar to a kind of bleak eeriness, as if there is something that there shouldn’t be as especially seen in “paradise”, which feels both creepy and whimsy, and “enchantment”, which turns out to be my favorite song.

Of course, ... read more
