The sonic encapsulation of a mountain journey. Cicada is possibly my favourite modern chamber band. They have simple yet meaningful compositions and Seeking the Source of the Streams is the best example of this. The most standout track is On the Way to the Glacial Cirque, it is a slower ballad which builds into a catchy climax.
A very interesting project by Asian Glow. Some tracks were very good but many felt uninspired to me. The auto tuned vocals were very cool but sadly I do not think the compositions were interesting enough for me.
To me, this album is a timeless classic. Simply sitting at the beach as the world fades to static. Its glitch sounds and samples send me into memories of summer and the calmer moments of life. The world Sora creates is soothing and full of ambience. A lot of music feels like you just listen to it but Re.sort transports you to it, allowing you to enter a new world, one of lost days in summer as the gentle ocean breeze fills your lungs.
At its core this album feels like tracker remixes of forgotten video game classics you would one day stumble upon while browsing youtube. It is a shame that most of Ilkae's other works have been forgotten, or at least over shadowed by Pistachio Island, but if you are at all interested in the world of Glitch or Tracker music please check this album out. It is light and airy and has breeze of nostalgia which permeates its track list. <3
Lovely reading music! Because it is finals season I have been listening to a lot of instrumental/ambient music and this one was recommended to me by my friend Max. The best way I can describe this album is that it flows like a river taking you down a consistent and steady journey. The most standout tracks for me were Green and Feet, beyond that I did not necessarily tune into many of the other ones. I would say this album is a fantastic example of great ambient music. It is uninteresting enough ... read more
When I was re-listening to this album for the first time in quite a while a found myself over taken with a strong feeling of cringe. This album was something of a favourite in my teen years, as was most of Bladee's music. I believe the cringe feeling that overtook me was simply remembering who I once was. After I got over myself and how the world would perceive me for listening to this "shitty cloud rap" music I fell into a trance of enjoyment. Bladee's lyrics are corny and ... read more
An ethereal, ocean themed IDM project that I found really mellow. I listened to this album primarily while doing statistics and its fun Drill and Bass grooves really helped me focus. When I think of IDM I think of what this album does so well. Soft, moving pad sections with bouncing and chopped drum parts scattered on top.
I would definitely give this a listen for fans if you are even slightly interested in the genre of IDM or Drill and Bass.
A touching collection of Japanese IDM. Like a lot of Eastern IDM the overall tonality underneath these tracks is warm and inviting. The sound of this album fits the art well as it feels like a carefree summers day. I'd recommend this to fans of Sora's Re.sort as this is a distant more beat focused relative.
Heavily inspired by Boards of Canada, sometimes to a fault. I found the drum grooves and breaks to be really lovely and the most standout aspect of this album. As I listened to deluxe reissue of this project I found it fairly long with very little difference between the tracks. Although, this version does not really feel too boring or repetitive. Overall I would recommend this project with the note that you should only listen to the original release (that being the first 12 tracks).
I really ... read more
