I didn't know what I was getting myself into here; I saw jazz fusion and got excited. I'm glad I did! This was a fun album with a lot to enjoy.
Like many other listeners, I found the into track to be a compelling start. Actually, I thought the first three tracks were all quite good. “Borderline” had a very nice beat, and the feature on “Aged Eyes” had an incredibly smooth flow.
My criticisms here are nothing devastating. The vocals on this album seem to have too much breathing room. I like having time to absorb lyrics, but there's so much space between lyrical songs I find them disconnected. The tone is a bit jarring. I was excited after the wonderful vocals on track 3, but a little disappointed when the spark fizzled out a bit. “4th Feb” also isn't the most compelling song lyrically, but that may be a matter of personal preference.
I found “Genda” to be a strong track, despite the low ratings. The long instrumental jazz songs were very impressive, too. I had lots of fun with them as someone who plays a lot of jazz. “BC” had an appropriate tone, but is a little too long for my liking. The ideas seem to fizzle out halfway in.
Despite the vocals being a bit too sparse and unimpressive in some places, I had a lot of fun here. Alfa Mist is very talented, and has a good ear. The album is produced and mixed quite well. There's clearly a lot of love put into this project. I think it's strong overall, and deserves a listen. I'll be checking out his other work when I have the time; many of the ideas on this are exciting.
