For the music head that I am, it's long overdue for me to dive into Radiohead, particularly this album which, by the majority of this website's standard, is almost the best album ever. Well, publicly shame me but I was expecting a little bit more. Now to make something abundantly clear, this album is packed with some seriously quality stuff, and there really isn't a moment I didn't think was good except for maybe "Fitter Happier" but I can't really hate on an interlude.

The peaks here are absolutely phenomenal. The iconic "Paranoid Android" and "No Surprises" are stunning without words, especially the latter, the only track I'd gotten a taste of prior to fully diving in. "No Surprises" is not only gorgeous, but it's one of the most evocative rock sounds I've heard from the 90s and to my whole belief a 10/10 song. The opening and closing guitar is seriously otherworldly and addicting. Coming right after this track is another one of the album's strongest and most evocative landmarks, "Lucky". Hitting a bit harder than the previous track, this one, while feeling a bit more linear, is a super strong cut that is just seeping out the pores with emotion. Same goes for the closer, "The Tourist". This three track run to end the album is one of if not the album's greatest features, especially after a couple of tracks, "Electioneering" and "Climbing up the Walls", that I thought were solid but definitely the weaker of the bunch.

"Subterranean Homesick Alien" was another one of my favourites. I could say the same thing as I did the last three tracks about how just evocative this is, but it really is a common aspect done outstandingly. This track is so goddamn smooth. The varying but not unorthodox instrumentation and the pacing are put together with great care. "Exit Music (For a Film)" is another highlight, one that I wasn't initially into but that grew on me, especially with the second half of the song being so strong.

It feels weird listening to something with such an incomprehensibly high average score and undershooting, but my ratings and reviews are with the utmost sincerity and uninfluenced by the crowd. This thing is great. A very solid art rock release of the 90s that not only makes me want to come back to it, but to explore more Radiohead at large. However, it's not one of the best albums ever, but maybe that'll change. As for now, I can't say so.

It may grow on you! When I first listened to it I thought "wtf is this?" and then it became an obsession for a big chunk of 2020. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
