SZA - Ctrl

It’s been a MINUTE since I been on AOTY, so I had to come back with a BANGER. And that banger has to be Ctrl. Lemme just say, I LOVE sza. Who doesn’t? I binged her discog not too long ago and I couldn’t find a miss. She has an angelic voice ofc, but when you combine that with the smooth R&B production she usually uses and the surprisingly intricate song writing, you gotta be crazy not to vibe to it. All of these facets of SZA come together so beautifully on Ctrl, it has to be her best album. I might come back to SOS a lil more, but Ctrl is SZA at her most vulnerable. And a vulnerable SZA is a perfect SZA. She’s explores herself and her failed relationships impressively well for a pretty short album. I mean compare the run time to SOS. Somehow, more is said here. SZA never really misses on the production side either, and that’s no different here. It’s calm and relaxing in the best way, with a little bit of experimentation I didn’t expect. It took me a while to get used to the guitar on supermodel for example, but I grew to love it with everything else. I think or 2 tracks are weaker than the rest, but they all fit well and play off each other to, in the grand scheme of things, create an R&B CLASSIC.
