not rating it because i know its not meant to be a serious album. it really feels like when a car crash happens on the road and you can’t help but stare at the crash when passing by. the beats are still insane while still being fun, and i’m gonna love playing this for laughs
★ [jailbreak freestyle, iphone 1 2 3 4 5]
i lowk waited out the hype, but i can definitely see where it comes from. that ozempic line?? jaw dropped. that glass? not tapped.
★ [sugar on my tongue, stop playing with me, don't tap that glass/tweakin', don't you worry baby, i'll take care if you]
a lot of these tracks differ from when i first started listening to the frights, but not necessarily in a bad way. the instrumentation? never misses. i definitely have to listen to the album a few more times to fully appreciate it
★ [mom’s van, older now, better days, wasted mind]
i love how this album is. an album. every song connects from one to the other, yet each song can stand on its own. the instrumentation is so layered that i would have to listen to this album multiple times to hear each instrument individually.
★ [(i must be a proctologist because) all i do is deal with assholes, 1-800-alarm-me, have fun rotting by yourself, "yeah, i don't know what it's like to be around a bunch of hipsters"
it's been a while since i checked up on day6 and saw they dropped two new songs! definitely enjoyed game over a bit more than maybe tomorrow though
some of these songs just itch a part of my brain.
★ [brown paper bag, reflected, somber the drums, little birds]
listened for the cat, stayed for the songs. i enjoyed majority of the tracks, and felt like the sound throughout the album stayed pretty consistent. as this was my first listen by riley!, i look forward to hearing what they'll release next
★ [bad boys boxing club, ego peek mid, eat your heart out]
the first few tracks really sucked me in and although there were some tracks that didnt catch my attention as much, its an overall well paced album. i also played this in my lecture and again while doing homework and i feel so productive
★ [from outside a window sill, side by side, the bug, (alone in) brussels, sleep talk, dust bunny, swarmed]
the instrumentation was so expressive and each track had their own stories to tell, but i definitely have to listen to this album a few more times to fully appreciate every aspect.
★ [(dawning of a) new era, hey little rich girl, little bitch, rat race, you're wondering now]
i really did enjoy a good chunk of this album. there were strong instrumentals, but it vocally felt... the same.
★ [badillac, does he even care, depress, sick shit, no way out, where the night ends]
a lot of these tracks reminded me of when i discovered mike krol in middle school.
★ [kiss, romantic, ten, denial, meatslave one]
i sat through all 14 minutes and 34 seconds of triangle.
★ [one through four, lost and found, change of mind, on the ground, triangle]
i knew i was going to enjoy this album because i knew madlib's works before, but now im going down the quasimoto rabbit hole
★ [seasons change, astronaut, planned attack, catching the vibe]
i feel like a lot of these songs are great standalone, but i can also understand why people say it loses momentum. i do think that the slower tracks were at perfect points
★ [man made of meat, medicine for horses, waterboy, you n33d me]
its been a while since ive listened to grent, but it feels like so much of his sound has developed while maintaining everything that i enjoyed about his earlier works
(gifted on vinyl)
