First review, sorry for my possibly clumsy English (not native).
OMFG This album is amazing! One of the most creative, diverse and beautifully composed pieces of music I’ve ever heard. It is basically a prog rock album with a bunch of influences from jazz to metal.
In the first 20-minute suite tracks 1-4) it starts very light and minimalistic and slowly builds into something exciting, cleverly using recurring motifs. Then in leads to another 25 min gapless segment (tracks 5-8), which feels a lot darker, and here is where music reaches creative and emotional peak. Seriously, it is so good! ‘The Advocate’ unironically became my favorite song of all time.
One of many great things about "Negative Space" is how it uses heaviness. 70-90% of the album you can’t call metal at all, but the remaining 10% hits so hard when it needed like in the climax of the most ‘prog metal’ song of the album, the title track.
Heavily suggest checking out at least ‘The Advocate’ or ‘Our Happy Home’. Though, the whole album works way better as a continuous piece.
