This album concludes the themes raised in Solar Power; themes about healing but coming from a place of wishful thinking or avoidance. Virgin closes that chapter of Lorde and breaks open a new, messy but vulnernable chapter of life where she doesn't quite have the answers yet and having peace with that.
True to its title, Gaga delivers chaotic front-to-back bangers! The album itself starts very industrial pop and macabre, but as it goes on it softens up to more playful tracks like “Zombieboy” and “Shadow of A Man” — inspired to '70s disco. I can say this is her strongest pop effort since ARTPOP though, and I can see myself coming back to the whole album over and over again.
Back in 2022, I quietly observed the reception to this album and to my surprise people were very polarized on this project; some thought it was a decent follow-up to the Dedicated era while others were not quite sure it's up to par with Carly's cult-classic E•MO•TION album.
