been waiting for this collab for such a long time, which i think led to my expectations being way too high. still a good song, just not the masterpiece i was hoping for.
that bassline is crazy tho omg
what if i told you the best rage song of the year has a beach house sample
This might be the best Carti clone to ever exist. The first few tracks are very reminiscent of Whole Lotta Red but Che still makes it his own and, in my opinion, even better. This album is just pure energy. The production makes you want to punch a hole in the wall and Che’s high pitched repetitive vocals give you the resolve to keep going.
I actually can’t explain how amazing the production is. I was taken ... read more
they say if you’re gay you make better music. kevin abstract is neither proving nor disproving this claim.
I will be honest, I think I came into this album with too high of hopes. Can you blame me though? The feature list was stacked to the moon and it was executive produced by Quadeca as well as being co-released on his label. I thought I was going to get Kevin Abstracts masterpiece and instead I simply got… a piece.
Now that’s not to say this album is bad by any means, I ... read more
this fucking dumbass doesn’t know what heavy metal sounds like
Overall thoughts:
Equal parts hopeful and devastating, Heavy Metal is my first experience with Cameron Winter/Geese and it’s a pretty interesting one. After getting addicted to his song “Love Takes Miles”, I decided to finally give this album a shot to see if anything else would stick out to me.
This album is very poetic. The lyrics feel less like a song and more like something I should be dissecting in an ... read more
writing this review instead of my cover letter
i saw someone describe this as if rick ross’ verse on devil in a new dress was 37 minutes long and damn that is the perfect way to describe this.
This album so far is my favorite rap record of the year. It’s such a fun listen. John flows over the jazzy soul beats with ease and the features kill it every time too. The production is perfect for the summer and is some of the best I’ve heard in a while. Each song holds its own and ... read more
shout out my friend for the banger recommendation
Yeah this is right up my alley. An amazing mix of shoegaze and indietronica this perfectly encapsulates everything I love about both genres.
The instrumentals here are riveting and I think it’s a really cool choice that the only vocals present are samples of conversations in Japanese. Each track really pulls you into its own world, painted not by lyrics but by guitars and drums. The riff on opening track has been stuck in my head since ... read more
oh yeah, i will be shaking my petite twink ass to this all summer
This might be the most fun I’ve had listening to an album this year. The beats on this record are so infectious and Pinks vocals have somehow gotten even better from her last project. This is like if you took everything from Heaven Knows, made it groovier and condensed it down to its best moments.
I have no complaints, just wish it was longer.

so according to airbuds liking this album makes me a furry and i’m not sure how i feel about that
I have listened to maybe a total of one and a half Car Seat Headrest songs before the rollout of this album started and now I realize I am very behind. The singles of this album really hooked me. Which surprised me because the lead single was almost 11 minutes long. Very rarely do I like a long song on the first listen, but Will Toledos voice is strangely addictive and I really appreciated ... read more
in honor of this album getting a must hear, i’m going to review the greatest hyperpop album of all time.
this is going to be a long ass review
I have a lot of history with brakence, which I think is what really contributes to this album holding such a special place in my heart. His 2020 album, Punk2 (title inspired by Charli XCX’s Pop2) was pretty much the only thing I listened to when I discovered it. It introduced me to the world of hyperpop and experimental music in general. ... read more
did djo just save summer?
I’ve been listening to djo since quarantine and his evolution has been really fun to watch. While I never fully held onto his previous album, “Decide”, the singles he dropped in preparation for this new project piqued my interest.
It feels like a combination of The Beatles and lowkey The Strokes with his own little pizzaz sprinkled throughout. Some really amazing nostalgic vibes produced by Mr. Keery here.
Every song is just so fun here and it ... read more
a little disappointing tbh
2hollis really out here fighting the gay people make good music allegations 😔
2hollis has been on my radar for a few years now, and I’ve really been enjoying his previous album, “boy” and the singles that he’s been dropping since then. But this album just feels subpar compared to his other works.
It’s a lot more mellow than I was expecting with some very edgy and grimey beats. It feels like he’s playing things too safe. Every ... read more
holy fuck it’s so loud
Jane is back, once again going in a completely different direction than her previous album and proving that she cannot be placed in any type of box.
In fact, I’m not even sure how to categorize this album alone. It’s like a mix of edm rave music, hip hop, rage, and dariacore (a genre jane CREATED btw).
Right off the bat, this album comes out swinging. When I first heard “TWICE REMOVED” I had no idea what to focus on. The production is very ... read more
it’s like radio head for even more pretentious people
I’ve been waiting for this album ever since they dropped the title track as their lead single. That song had a chokehold on me for so long with its trippy vocals and beautiful guitar.
And by the gods did they deliver. It’s just such a vibe. Each track has incredible production and there’s not a single moment that feels boring. My one complaint is that some songs end a little abruptly.
this shit makes me wish i ... read more
the youtube algorithm REALLY wants me to get into uk underground rap.
Coming from a similar vain as fakemink (who's song
"easter pink" I can't get enough of), Feng is an artist from the UK experimenting with the new sound of the underground, combining elements of rage, trap, and hip hop. However, unlike a lot of these other underground artists, Feng has an incredible amount of lyrical substance. While the lyrics are still relatively simple, they definitely pack a punch. my ears genuinely might be cooked bc i don't hate it.
to prep for rolling loud i decided to actually listen to this album in its full and needless to say, it's no masterpiece. obviously. the lyrics are nonsensical and corny with no substance, nett's flow is running away from the beat, and some of those 808s are downright atrocious.
but goddamn does it hit sometimes.
The album opens up pretty strong with "Growing Up", a song that actually has a surprising amount of ... read more
does being gay make you better at music? sources say yes once again.
thank you brokie, for almost making me cry in the middle of linear algebra.
i've known of brokies existence for a while now, since about late 2020/early 2021 due to her (loose) association with spider gang at the time. her sound never stuck out to me much, and while i liked a couple of her songs they never got added to the playlist.
about a year ago, the song "pity party." came up on my spotify and i was ... read more
Does being gay make you better at music? Studies show yes.
I discovered Arlo back during quarantine with her feature on Sangria by Easy Life. Every now and then, I listen to this song and am reminded as to what an amazing singer she is and I inevitably revisit this album and let my worries wash away.
Arlo Parks' silky smooth voice glides on top of jazzy instrumentals on this album, creating what is possibly the most relaxing experience to ever exist ever. This is the definition of ... read more
First listen through review:
Jane Remover once again reminding me that shoegaze is amazing and wonderful and god how beautiful guitar can be.
The fact that an album this good is on her "side project" is baffling. This WILL be in rotation for the next week and entirety of autumn once that comes along again.
78/100 but it absolutely will go up as I listen to it more, especially once I can fully digest the lyrics.
