So... I think Kojima watched Arcane lol. Still a great soundtrack though!
To The Wilder is incredibly easy to listen to over and over.
Mostly quite good! There's quite a bit more bloat here than S1's soundtrack (and I think in the show itself, there are way too many songs in general) but the highlights are much stronger here. The Line and Ma Meilleure Ennemie are, outside of the "Arcane OST" grading scale, genuinely great tracks. The former especially has lots of little details (like the ghostly vocals in the background that parallel the Stromae's singing) that tell a relatively basic story of ... read more
This is easily one of the most addictive albums I’ve ever listened to, and songs that should come off as cloying or repetitive (like I think about it all the time) end up having an emotional impact… largely due to Charli’s disarming intimacy. Charli’s ability to create club-ready bangers that thematically match the insecurities and troubles of 20-30 somethings, while not pandering, has already been established, but never before in a way that’s so consistent, ... read more
Not gonna lie… I like the edit better. This just didn’t really do it for me :/
This soundtrack elicits emotions that I haven't had from an LP or OST from a long time. Due to its relatively sparse instrumentation, the piece is effused with loneliness but never in a way that bores the listener. In its most thrashing and tremendous moments, it feels like being pulled into a whirlpool. The whole work perfectly matches the story it's accompanying: a empty boy struck with sadness and grief after a catastrophe.... only to be sucked into a world of imagination that presents him ... read more
When it dives into more familiar territory for techno/house at the time, the album gets pretty boring. With that said, the parts that do stand out are so satisfying to listen to that anything less than a 70 would feel wrong.
I highly recommend listening to this in chunks like how it was released. The instrumentals can get pretty old after an hour and not all of the tracks are a hit. But when they do go off, my god. Superstar might be my favourite Beach House song ever.
Tongue kinda drags, everything else is gold. That stretch from Dirty Epic to M.E. might be the most transporting series of songs I've ever heard
This is perfect for work. You’re convinced that you’re creating the next nuclear superweapon while writing meeting notes.
This feels like a shitty parody song that would play in season 20 of Rick and Morty
Maybe I'm biased because I liked the show so much, but a surprising amount of these tracks slap. Even if Enemy still kinda sucks.
Beautiful and classy as fuck. Like the tv show, it blends so many genres and influences together that it practically creates its own genre. It's the kind of music you put on while smoking a cigarette on the balcony and watching cars roll by on a rainy night. Yet you could also play other tracks at a party and nobody would bat an eye. The LP never lingers on one idea or mood for too long while still feeling incredibly cohesive.
Also, I really hope the Netflix show doesn't suck. It probably ... read more
Song is kind of catchy (in an annoying way) and the production is very bare-bones. Those horns and warbling sound effects also sound kinda gross. JID's flow is great, but none of his bars are particularly meaningful or witty.
Like Sunflower, it's a generic pop tune soundtracking an animated film/tv show that looks much more interesting.
Julian Casablancas' best vocals in years. The Strokes finally find their groove again with electronic instrumentals while recontextualising themes from past records.
In The New Abnormal's weaker moments, it's still memorable and catchy. Outside of those tracks, the band's efforts are positively invigorating.
Fave tracks: Bad Decisions, At The Door, Not The Same Anymore, The Adults Are Talking
Very corny and melodramatic, but that's the point. 😁
Definitely beats out DragonForce and a lot of other generic power/heavy metal outfits. However, it could have been more experimental at the end or shorter overall. After 10 tracks of these vocals and riffs, my excitement started to run a little thin.
Energetic rhythm and performances can't overshadow the flaws in this mix of condescending lyrics, cumbersome electronic instrumentation, and barely passable indie tunes.
Maybe I'm off base, but...
this feels like Lorde's "Scorpion".
Sorry. This one was not for me.
I am so happy that synthwave is hitting the mainstream again in such a well-produced way. Despite this single heavily iterating on the themes of After Hours (two people at a party meet, there's hesitation or personal problems with Abel, but the couple can't say no to the "high" of love/intimacy), the track demonstrates mastery of both the synthpop genre and audience expectations. Also, going in a straight-up kinky direction fits the dark tone perfectly.
My only major problem with ... read more
