فيروز [Fairuz] - Modern Favorites
86

refreshing, distinct sound. Her voice works extremely well with the instrumentals, evoking a sense of calm for listeners. I recently got into Fairuz's music and this introduced me to her works. Truly beautiful!
favourite track: Aloula.

Nujabes - Metaphorical Music
96

Nujabes never misses. Incredibly talented. Lady Brown is insane—been on repeat since I discovered it 5 years ago... More people need to talk about Summer Gypsy

Pedro Martins - Rádio Mistério
88

So rhythmically tight! those chord changes!! an underrated artist, really hoping he goes big soon because he 100% deserves the recognition. also, the features are insane—Thundercat, JD Beck, Eric Clapton... just wow. I just know that he will be one of the greats soon. So much talent and passion squeezed into this album.

Nujabes - Spiritual State
87

Never disappoints. A beautiful and distinguished sound. Amazing work, collaborating the great minds of Nujabes, Uyama Hiroto, Cise Star, and other amazing notable artists.

Blue Iverson - Hotep
78

my favourite side project from Dean Blunt. Jennah's Interlude has genuinely been on repeat since the moment I started listening to it. The production in this album is sooo smooth and comforting to listen to. Calming and distinct from his other projects. Would have rated it higher, but the album overall lacked cohesion. There's a couple good tracks and there's evidently a running theme in it, but it's not as united as we want an album to be. Really chill and nice atmosphere.

Robert Glasper - Let Go
70

Robert Glasper's records are just exceptional. Production-wise, they're always so well put together, and he's one of the best artists at really making albums engaging for listeners—he cares about transitions, flow and balance.

Let Go is no different from his other released albums; however, it is a newer approach from him, in my opinion. This album is more—I'm not sure how to put it—atmospheric? I can't find a better word to describe it. But it is ... read more

坂本龍一 [Ryuichi Sakamoto] - Chasm
73

"Is War As Old As Gravity?"
This project is special. I really don't understand why more people aren't talking about this powerful record. CHASM has the potential to change the world, especially during this politically tense period of international relations and peacemaking.
The third track in this project, War & Peace, will forever stick with me. My first listen to this was metamorphic. It touches the hearts of the troubled and tells a story through its reflective ... read more

Lisa Ono - Lisa's Ono Bossa Hula Nova
80

The sound of summer, tropical bliss, seashores and seashells. Accurately encapsulates that sensation of feeling the warmth of the sun on your skin on a hot day at the beach.
Her singing steals the hearts of many and impresses all listeners—who wouldn't when they hear that graceful yet adorable voice?
Favourite track : Sway It, Hula Girl

Shiro SAGISU - BLEACH Original Soundtrack 3
67

Resonates better if you've watched the anime Bleach. Orihime's Line is so beautiful, I'm surprised not many people are talking about this beautiful track.
The rest of the album, personally, isn't anything remarkable—it serves its purpose as the soundtrack, supporting the animations very well. Don't get me wrong, I still love it; it's just not as good compared to his other albums. A great record from Sagisu.

American Football - American Football
89

An all-time favourite. Listening to the full album on repeat in a road trip is how I got addicted to listening to it, so addicted that I got sick of it and had to take a break from it. Now that I'm back, I'm loving it as much as I did since the first listen.
I absolutely love Steve Lamos on the drums, especially in 'I'll See You When We're Both Not So Emotional" and "But The Regrets Are Killing Me".
An important record within the emo-jazz/midwest-emo ... read more

Yussef Kamaal - Black Focus
88

Groovy! It's sad that this is the only album available to us by the Yussef Kamaal duo.
Yussef Dayes and Kamaal Williams—an iconic combination of a drum virtuoso and an enthralling keyboardist. This album is iconic. A pleasant, cool, and catchy jazz fusion record. Love the bass too!
Favourite tracks: Joint 17, Black Focus, Mansur's Message

Dorothy Ashby - The Rubáiyát of Dorothy Ashby
72

Dorothy Ashby is famous for bringing in the harp into jazz—this LP is a special one.
A rubáiyát is a verse form in Persian poetry, a collection of four-line stanzas. The lyrics are rubáiyáts, and work extremely well with the beautiful supporting instrumentals.
It's warm and comforting, with a sense of dignity.
Is it only me that feels like Bjork's 'Like Someone In Love' and maybe a bit of 'I remember you' draws a lot of inspiration ... read more

Dean Blunt - ZUSHI
76

Dean Blunt never fails to challenge the conventions of UK artists.
His collaboration with A$AP Rocky in '19' is really nice. Makes the track stand out from the other songs in the album.
I associate this album with my darkest times—it's comforting yet dark nature is addictive and beautiful.
My favourites are: 9 (don't call me a 'newgen', the chords are really nice...), 11, and 19.

Sit and watch it burrrnnnnn....

Force Of Nature / Nujabes / Fat Jon - Samurai Champloo Music Record: Impression
98

"world without words" has just been ON REPEAT. I recall I was the top 0.001% listener for this track last year on Spotify (not that it's that impressive...)

I don't understand the low ratings. Of course it's not his best, but considering that this album was created as the soundtrack for Samurai Champloo to reinforce its ambiance and Edo time period feel (with a slight Hiphop twist), it is exceptional and is doing such a great job at supporting the anime.

Robert Glasper - In My Element
89

The album that really got me hooked into Glasper's discography. This iconic trio album features bassist Vicente Archer and drummer Damion Reid. One of his best jazz albums. In My Element and Canvas are my favourites at the moment.

I love F.T.B. since we can see it develop into a R&B track, Gonna Be Alright (F.T.B.) in his Black Radio album.

Also LOVED Maiden Voyage / Everything In Its Right Place. Honestly, all of the tracks are just so tight and clear and a clear indication of ... read more

fakemink - Sniffany
83

This single should be talked about more—the instrumentals are so addicting. I can't stop listening to this track. top 3 fakemink??

Sniffany, amnesia, and just kitten. My top 3 for now. I'm excited to see what he releases in the upcoming months. I'm glad he's getting the recognition he deserves.

Sora - re.sort
70

Glitchy, electronic, experimental; but still gives a sense of tranquil. A unique and original sound. Love the Debussy influences (i.e. La Cathédrale Engloutie, Revans). Highly recommend to anyone who's looking out for something different and new.

坂本龍一 [Ryuichi Sakamoto] - Thousand Knives of Ryuichi Sakamoto
75

Sakamoto's solo debut album, the beginning of his Pop era, with persistent influences from the YMO evident from the synths and electronic sound. Experimental.

Favourite track: Thousand Knives

Bill Evans - From Left to Right
82

The concept behind this album—playing a Fender Rhodes on the left, and the Steinway on the Right. That's what makes this different from his other works. Impressive but not really special in terms of technical fluency and overall feel of the album though, hence the lower rating. But I don't understand the extremely low ratings by other users?

My favorites: Soiree, Soiree - Alternative Take, I'm All Smiles
