Consistently great album from start to finish with a few minor dips toward the second half, but still a fantastic project. Andre's lyricism is the rudder for this album, guiding it and shifting it smoothly and flawlessly as it addresses so many different topics of their lives', the place they're living in, the impact of fame but still the struggle that they're living in. On songs like Ova Da Wudz his abstract lyricism and wordplay shine like few others' can, painting a picture of the brutal world he came from and that others still live in as if it were a fairytale happening in a faraway land. It's always artists that can paint a vivid, abstract picture that have the greatest emotional impact on me, and that best sends the message home.
If Andre is the rudder then Big Boi is the engine, his good punchlines and abstract lyricism lead bursts of energy that come in and out of each track. While I think Andre is more important to the overall project, Big Boi is right there behind him and shines in his own respect as well.
The production is amazing throughout.
My one knock on this project is that there were many very very good songs, but less that hit me as 9/10 or 10/10's, which takes away a little bit. My favorites were Atliens and Wheelz of steeel, as well as ova da wudz.
Overall, it's an 8.4-8.5 for me. Second Outkast album I've listened to.... today. Lol.
I'm moving to Hoboken tomorrow so trying to listen to a bunch of their albums before then-- Aquemini up next!!
Notes as I listened here below:
Andre is fantastic— his imagery is so amazing fr bro, so poetic too.
Jesus Andre… ova da wudz is some crazy shit that only he could spit, like fr.. that shit is fucking crazy.. so good. Big boi also spazzed on that song but Andre is crazy fr.
Yeah Andre brings it in every verse, big boi is definitely good fs, but he has times with some whack bars fs, im thinking he’s like a very good mc, not as good as someone like Gza, mos or Earl probably, but just right behind them I’d say, he is very good tho fr and has his moments, just not as good as Andre for sure. Andre is crack.
Very consistent album with fantastic production and lyricism, flows, etc.
Andre has an awesome flow, he rhymes a decent amount but not like crazy, more than big boi, but probably a bit less than others I’d say, but he has his moments. He still sounds fantastic with his flows and has times when he goes off with the rhymes too, does internals a good amount, but it’s all about what he’s saying, the abstract, creative picture that he paints to things is so unique and authentic, reminds me somewhat of black thought, but there’s so few rappers that can hit every song at such a unique angle like this. It’s absolute crack.. so good.
This album does have a couple whack messages, about girls being lesbians and not sleeping with Andre.. that was weird.. but the production is so consistently good that it’s fantastic!!
Mainstream is an awesome lyrical song. Decatur psalm big boi goes off as well.
This album has a lot of great songs but fewer that make me go holy shit, y’know? Fantastic production tho on each.
Rhyme schemes for Andre on millennium are insane, absolutely fucking crazy.
Yeah big boi doesn’t fuck around he’s crazy in millennium and Decatur psalm, wild in millennium, and bests out Andre, though it’s close
Big boi has some whack bars, not an insane amount but definitely more than Andre. Also his flow is not my favorite, Andre has a much better flow for sure.
Yeah, great ending, Andre is so fucking poetic, it’s amazing, I like it. Big boi really does do his part too!!!
