Well this absolutely sucked lol.
The newest installment in Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter" series is one that starts off somewhat okay, before absolutely falling off a cliff. The first half of this thing is decent enough I guess, there are some pretty okay Wayne performances and some decent production, in fact, I really liked "Banned From NO", it sounded pretty solid to me. Although the hooks from Jelly Roll and Bono are really annoying and make their respective song hard to ... read more
Little Simz is back with a new album and once again she absolutely cooked on this. The production on this album is incredible with very nice, lush jazzy instrumentals all throughout. Simbi's rapping is also incredible with superb flows, that are super catchy and nice to listen. The features are also top tier, delivering some excellent performances that add a lot to their respective tracks. Overall, this album is incredible and might go down as one of my favorites this year.
So I heard all of the deluxe songs that were released prior to it coming out and my opinion hasn't changed, I think they're incredibly mid. Again the big thing is that I'm not really a fan of Carti's deep voices, which leads to a lot of these tracks just falling kind of flat for me. As for the new song "FOMDJ", it just kind of sounds like a filler track to me. Overall, I didn't find this deluxe to be really necessary, but I'll give it some points for not ... read more
So I finally got around to checking out Playboi Carti's newest album and yeah I did not enjoy this at all. Now I'm definitely not a Carti super fan, the only album of his I've heard is WLR and I thought it was a mixed, but overall decent album. Sadly, I can't say the same for this.
Starting of with the positive there are some good songs here, "RATHER LIE" is a quite good collaboration with The Weeknd, although I thats more because of The Weeknd rather than ... read more
Yup this EP absolutely slaps.
Considering that "Zjerm" was my favorite Eurovision song this EP I was pretty excited to check this EP out and it did not disappoint. I will say, that the songs on here are quite a bit different from "Zjerm", they feature a lot more electronics and the vocals feel more like part of the instrumental than being the main draw, but I don't think that is a bad thing. In fact I really enjoyed the song on this EP, the way the songs build is ... read more
I remember really enjoying San Holo back in the day, when he was on Monstercat, however in recent years I've fallen with his music. But I decided to check this EP out, because I was curious to see what he is up to, and sadly, I wasn't really a fan of this EP. I don't know, to me these songs just sound like generic future riddim type songs, that fall pretty flat in my opinion. Also "CLOSE YOUR EYES" is just bad, the whole thing just sounds super screechy in a really ... read more
Eptic is back with a new EP, that feels very old school, but also modern. These songs sound like up to date versions of Eptic's older material and I think it really works. Through some great collaboration and you have an all killer, no filler EP, that delivers on hard hitting and punchy tunes, that slap super hard. This is definitely something I see myself revisiting.
Considering how much I enjoyed Bird of Pray, I decided to check out the full album and I have to say it was a really nice listen. The whole album has a very chill and uplifting feeling that is very infectious. I also like how this album feels very retro, in that it sounds like it would've been released like 30 years ago, but also feels very modern and well produced. Overall, this was a really nice and chill listen that I can see myself returning to in the future and I'm curious to see ... read more
So I'm gonna say it, I've never really been the biggest Cloudnone fan, ever since I first heard them on Monstercat. There are quite a few Cloudnone songs that I enjoy, but I find that the amount of songs I enjoy from them is less than the amount that I dislike or just feel in the middle about. And sadly, I didn't enjoy any of the songs on this EP, the whole just sounded pretty boring to me. It's not awful or anything and I can understand why people enjoy this, but I just ... read more
The second track is a bit better than the first, but these are still two pretty uninteresting Silk songs, that sound ok and nothing else.
Another Conro EP via the oncor moniker, and another pretty forgettable project. None of these songs are bad, but also all of them just feel like generic Silk songs, with nothing to make them memorable or interesting.
I remember really loving Code: Pandorum's stuff when I was getting into dubstep in like 2019, but nowadays, I find their stuff to be pretty hit or miss. And sadly, this EP is more misses than hits. "Mahakala" and "Summoning" are the two standout tracks from this EP, they're not amazing, but they're pretty solid deathstep tunes. The other songs, just kind of fall flat for me, none of them are bad, but also they're not really memorable or interesting to me. ... read more
JPEGMAFIA is back with a new EP, a collaboration with Flume. Now tbh I haven't really listened to much of Flume, but I was fairly excited for this EP. And after listening I have to say it's decent I guess.
The first song "Track 1" honestly feels like a skit more than a song, until it goes fully instrumental and at that point it becomes a pretty chill experience. The production, but Peggy is a bit too minimal here.
"Is It Real" is pretty good aswell, Peggy's ... read more
Going into this I was expecting to enjoy it more, as I remember enjoying Koven's last album quite a bit. However, apart from a few songs, I just found this album to quite dull. The drops sound like generic dnb, that doesn't stand out or leave an impact and while Katie's vocals are pretty good, they're not enough to make this an enjoyable experience. This isn't an awful album, I like a few songs here like "Where My Heart Is" and "Time Is On Our Side", ... read more
Westside Gunn is back with a short new EP and while it's not anything ground breaking, it's still an enjoyable listen. This has everything you want from WSG, grimy beats, lively performances, great flow from Gunn. I wish it had more material, but I have to imagine this some extra stuff he put out just for the hell of it. Overall, a decent little project from Westside Gunn.
I decided to check this out because of the producer list and I have to say, this was a really solid remix package. I would say I enjoyed a little over half of the remixes on here with the Aweminus remix and INFEKT VIP being particular highlights. What drags this down are a couple weaker remixes and the Codd Dubz remix, which is just no.
Your honor it's peek.
Anyways Skrillex is back after releasing two albums is 2023, with a brand new album that is 46 minutes long with 34 tracks. Honestly, I would say that this album feels much more like a DJ Mix rather than an album and I think that the best way to enjoy this project is with that mindset. Rather than picking out specific tracks, this album is much better enjoyed just played from start to finish.
The production on this thing is amazing, the songs sound super well produced ... read more
Look, I knew going into this that this was not going to be a good listen, but I thought maybe there will be a couple of songs that I'll enjoy and come back to. But nope, I didn't really like any songs from this album. Now there were a couple of songs like "NOKIA" or "DIE TRYING" which were decent, but definitely not good enough for me to want to come back to them.
So let's break down the issues with this album. First of all, the length, this album has no ... read more
Detour is another EP from NIRE that I respect a lot more than I enjoy. That isn't to say this EP is bad, in fact it has quite a few songs that I enjoyed like "Want 2", "Last Breath" and "Detour", which I thought were really quirky, creative bass music cuts. However, the other two tracks, while interesting, just didn't land for me. I hope NIRE continues to come with more interesting stuff in the future, because their output has been quite interesting.
Sadly, I found Shadowsong's second act to be weaker than the first. With the main issue being the fact, that I didn't really enjoy tracks 2-4. They weren't bad, but just not something I connected with. The first and last song, though were quite a bit better, although they weren't anything amazing. Which overall, left me feeling kind of meh towards this project. Hopefully act III is better.
