Man, this song is a tank. It's the point in my listen to The Ascension where i sat back and was confident Sufjan knew exactly what he was doing. The euphoria it gives me is crazy.
Gwen, nobody asked you to recreate De Se Dab. Every part of this song screams an advertisement for some glittery pink high top marketed to 4th graders, and the vocal performance could use some serious work. I will give it credit for a few seconds of reprise, but besides that, absolutely no.
It's good but I've never seen someone drown in influences this much. It's a pretty good Ew chord prog tho. The demo vocal qualities don't actually get in the way of my enjoyment, and actually kinda sound like the lo-fi days of CSH.
To be fair, I am literally in the process of writing a Joji knockoff song and I cannot produce, so I guess we’re kinda in the same boat. Good start Matt!
