To be precise, this album is exactly 66% Hannah Montana and 34% "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen

It seems like a pretty simplistic synthietronica album, sometimes kinda minimal-y, even, and it doesn't have any super interesting songwriting it's letting shine, either, and the lyrics aren't really doing enough to sway me, just a lot of cryptic lines without coming across like they have much anything interesting underneath, then they repeat the hook line of the song some more

The first couple of songs are mostly the standouts for me, one of which sounds like a love-letter to ... read more

Passion Pit - Chunk of Change

Where an album like Gossamer is Passion Pit at the height of maximalism and grandness, Chunk of Change overflows the ears with sensation all the same, but by different, more simple and bedroomy means; dreamy synths and smooth sounds fill the EP and provide a sort of hypnotic aura across the tracks. theres something magical about a heavy metal album this.. cheesy? it feels so cheesy i instinctively assume theyre self-aware of that (black sabbath was at least 50% easier to take seriously a decade earlier) and that just makes it feel charming. this is a FUN album by people who want you to have FUNS. the music feels really full and satisfying, just right to flood the senses... every track is fun, they keep consistent but stand out enough that it doesn't feel repetitive. this has to ... read more

Billy Joel - Cold Spring Harbor

the angry young piano man himself's first album, full of gentle songs. they're not soft in a boring nothing-happening way, some of them aren't even soft, but they still carry a gentleness in their harder moments. billy's voice is pretty, his piano melodies are pretty, the words are pretty, the album makes twinkly snow-angels with its light piano and passively-melancholy vocals. there might be a couple tracks i forget exist but the album is pleasant through-and-through.
