Solid release. Arrangements relying more on building atmosphere than on the “build, drop, build…” style that plagues so much dubstep - and the atmospheres here are well realized, even if not fully immersive.
They are the rap version of the German band Slope? Slope is the Hardcore version of them? Either way, for all of the retro stylings and 90s rap idolization, these two throw in so many contemporary flourishes that the production rises above hero worship. Bars are funny as hell too, even if potentially repetitive over the span of a full EP
Olof maintins his status as an outsider genius in the space of dance (and related) music. He paints with a palate of colours as vivid as they are unique, and here has arranged and sequenced these in such intricate yet intuitive sounding ways.
Small batch, craft techno tunes with hand-made automation. you'll both swear that "nothing much is happening", while also feeling the intense desire to fist bump at points. A true master
The fun Jack is having on this is palpable and infectious.
It feels like watching a Scorsese film in that he's not reinventing a form but just showing what's possible if you refine what's in the form (and by refine I mean recording some parts of it with a potato, and leaving nothing undistorted)
