Saor have always been good at blending Atmosphere Black Metal with Folk, so it might not be a surprise to long time fan of Saor that this record is no exception. It might hit similar vibes to their earlier records, but the playing is so refined that it’s intense, infectiously melodic and genuinely epic all at once throughout the near hour long run time.
Some of the most flat out gorgeous Black Metal I’ve heard in a ... read more
The end of The Weeknd’s latest (and perhaps final) trilogy of albums that also include Starboy & Dawn FM is often fun and offers a solid story about a mega star hitting rock bottom. The Weeknd’s massive success and larger than life persona definitely does deserve a grand send off, but every time I play this movie length album, I can’t help but feel it falls a short of being that great farewell. Plenty of songs sound good and The Weeknd often sounds good throughout the ... read more

I can definitely appreciate FKA Twigs expanding beyond what we expect from her, this time offering a blend of Modern Art Pop with Techno elements, and for the most part she works well with the material thanks to her very distinct voice.
However something about the whole of it just kind of doesn’t fully connect with me. Maybe there could’ve been more chances for experimentation with this new approach for her, but as it ... read more

Part 2 of my quest to review every Decibel Magazine Hall Of Fame Album brings us to At The Gates’s landmark Melodic Death Metal album Slaughter Of The Soul.
At The Gates offer up one of the most influential Metal albums of the 1990, with this laying the ground work that many would take influence from. All the elements common within Melodic Death Metal are here. Riffs are loud but still prioritize melody, the vocals are ... read more

On paper, Sabrina Carpenter should click with me in a big way. Good voice, nice sense of humor, yet something about her work just kind of underwhelms me. Even last year’s Short & Sweet only gave me a few jams I dug while the rest of it just didn’t leave a real impact, and I think I have the same problem here, but there’s less of those jams I personally dug.
It’s got more of a Pop Country vibe, and I ... read more
The textbook definition of perfectly fine. There are some solid hooks, beats and features, and while nothing here is awful, nothing truly stands out. It’s a record that just kind of exists. His influence on mainstream hip-hop is apparent, no one can take that from him, but I just feel like a number of those acts who have taken influence from his style have expanded upon it, which makes Lil Baby feel like an artist who doesn’t have that many interesting ideas beyond satisfying the ... read more

While I wasn’t familiar with The Wonky Angle YouTube channel or the prior music made by the man behind it, I was interested in getting into more Electronic Music, so I saw some buzz for this and dived in, and I really dug it.
It’s a great, feel good listen filled with relaxing vibes, exciting swerves and very memorable melodies throughout. Don’t sleep on this.

Something I want to do as a side project is to review albums highly rated by music magazines, and I figure a decent place to start is with Decibel, a magazine specializing in Extreme Metal. They primarily cover current bands and records, but each month they have an oral history of the making of landmark albums that helped shape the more intense styles of Metal. I also plan on looking ... read more

Well, credit where it’s due: I can’t help but appreciate following up a record like Preacher’s Daughter with something as left field as this: An Ambient/Drone movie length EP that sounds more like the soundtrack to a horror movie than the follow up to a record as beloved as Preacher’s Daughter. It’s Ethel Cain taking her music where she wants to take it and trusting that enough people will ... read more

Nourished By Time is an Alternative R&B & Bedroom Pop project masterminded by Marcus Elliot Brown hailing from Baltimore, Maryland. His previous projects such as his full length debut Erotic Probiotic 2 and the Catching Chickens EP showed an artist that takes influence from the above mentioned styles along with Post Punk elements. This might sound like a mix that could lose its way and lack focus, but thankfully ... read more
