People say this sounds like Dream Baby Dream by Suicide, but I’d argue it has more musically in common with Rise by Public Image Ltd.
With the whole white-boy-with-suit-and-tie visual shtick he had going at this time, I like to think of him as The Dare if he wanted to be more artsy with his sound.
Jokes aside, this is a very admirable debut. Very clear Berlin-era Bowie worship with all the ambient tracks that split this album from the more beat-oriented tracks. Does feel pretty disjointed because of its sequencing and overall its leaning toward icy and austere sonics leaves me kind of cold, but overall pretty enjoyable.
