MUSTARDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD1!1!1!1!1!1!1!!11!!11!1!1!
Kendrick making a SupaHotFire reference was not in my 2024 wishlist ๐ญ
Also ya think this album is the opposite of DAMN. because all the title track are in lowercase ๐ค๐ค
Mf I just woke up in the morning and Kendrick out of nowhere just whisper my ear out of nowhere "Yo, I just drop an album", it's feel like he scream into my ear in 350db cuz I literally jump out of excitement, Kendrick just did another surprise drop again with zero single came out, that just goat status there ๐ (not glazing I swear)
Okay brief album review, I will only review a couple of track that stand out to me the most :D
Now because it's came out after the most anticipated beef of the decade so there a lot of element from it implemented from album and "wacced out murals" manage to talk about it but also poking fun to those who keep talking about it even after 6 months later and the line "I'm doing what COVID did, they will never get over it" reflect it nicely. But the track not only talk about it but it's also reflect his accomplishments and his dedication to his craft and gave his thought on the rule on engagement, on how to please people.
The Brocoli is real?!?!!??!!?! "squabble up" definitely surprise me so much like I'm so glad that snipper doesn't got the Alright music video treatment, still that line "Woke up, lookin' for the brocoli" is so funny like I haven't seen someone compared weed to brocoli. Hearing the hook instead of transitioning to the knock knock scene just fill me with happiness but I've a feeling the hook would get pretty annoying. Other than the hook, this song is kind of a motivation track? Still a very solid track.
"man at the garden" could've come up as pretentious but this Kendrick we talking about. The man who always has the fulfillment to inspire people, the track gave Kendrick's philosophy on how much sacrifice he has made, how much work he has done to earn the gift he desperately need as he repeated the line "I deserve it all" countless times, not just that he gave the listener a reflect on their goal and challenge them to what they would do to earn it all.
You can clearly tell how much Mustard has done to Kendrick as he produced like 4 or 5 tracks in the album, it's insane that this man went from just sending 5 tracks to Kendrick a day to create the most iconic diss track of all time to produced many tracks from Kendrick new album. "hey now" definitely my favorite Mustard beat from the album, Kendrick just rapping like usual and also gave his insightful critique on the social media trend. Also if you listen to this album you can see Kendrick bring a lot of feature from many underground rapper and the Dody6 feature goes really hard.
Okay here the track I want to talk the most as it's the most interesting track on the album, "reincarnation" is my favorite track as the concept is so good, Kendrick storytelling his past incarnation as the two iconic musician in the black culture, Al Green and Billie Holiday, Kendrick dived deep into their overall life, goal and success until it come until the end until he reincarnated into himself. This whole track is Kendrick appreciation to their influence and culture. Also when first listen to it, why the instrumental kinda remind me of 2pac "Hit 'em up" until I realized the song samples 2pac, not "Hit 'em up" tho :((((
Mustard did his return again on the track "tv off" which is the most Not Like Us sounding track ever ๐ญ, oh I forgot to said how much Mustard instrumental on this album sound like Not Like Us but prolly cuz Kendrick rapping over it. Still this song SLAP, the sudden switch up at the half the song is so smooth and Kendrick screaming "MUSTARD" after it is pure hype. I definitely have a feeling this will be the most popular song from the album.
"heart pt. 6" is another highlight from the album. I just love how it isn't named The heart pt. 6 so it doesn't have to associate itself from that Drake stinker of a track. Another great continuation to his very well beloved The Heart series. The track dived into the starting point of Kendrick life, still learning and mastering, dreaming of a well known label signing you.
Have ya remember what I said on how Kendrick just decided to having some underground rapper as a feature? Yea "gnx" embodies that, now I kinda understand why this is the least rated track in the whole album, the feature is disorganized and kinda forgettable but I still appreciate Kendrick for showing appreciation on many underground rapper. Kinda a filler from the album tbh
Alright yea, a "brief" review from the album lol, I definitely not just spent an entire hour writing all this shit ๐ญ. But really I just love this man work lmao, GNX is a very solid album from Kendrick, not on his past album level of great but still an overall enjoyable listen.
Peak track: wacced out murals, squabble up, man at the garden, reincarnated, tv off, heart pt.6
Mid track: gnx kinda not really
Why this is my longest review ๐ญ, Kendrick talking about Brocoli do get my mind cooking.
