What the fuck is everyone here talking about. Yes this sounds raw and vulnerable: it's the point. It's always been the point with Ezra's music. I find her voice here as strong and sharp as ever.
Katie Dey fully drops any hints of "bedroom pop" still present in her music to make way for a new, epic scope of glitchy noise. It really feels like a hyper-opera, an experimental piece of lo-fi electronica with a depth that can't be underestimated. A real masterpiece.
A masterpiece: Mitski goes full singer-songwriter. In one of her best albums in years, she takes elements from folk, art pop and even country (!), through 11 introspective pieces, each one beautiful and yet so simple. When I reached the end of The Deal I knew I was in for one of the best albums of the year.
No idea what everyone else is talking about: this is a very bad album. Any "noise" is undercut by how basic the sound is, the lyrics are just plain awful. There's no depth to the anger this is attempting to channel. It's like IDLES with none of the self awareness and none of the fun. Self-serious to a fault, Nails is barely listenable.
