Cheat Codes, by the legendary rapper Black Thought and legendary producer Danger Mouse. Before listening to this album, I thought it was gonna be sinister and dark because of the cover, but after listening to it twice, none of the tracks are that creepy. Every song on this project has a different mood to it, from more relaxed songs, to more energetic & loud bangers.
An issue I have with Cheat Codes is that most songs seemed a bit low quality, usually it was Black Thought's rapping that didn't seem too well mixed, but sometimes even the sample needed a bit of better mixing, but on the other hand, I believe that actually helped a lot of tracks for some reason, it just gave them a rawer vibe to it.
Other than that issue that I don't mind that much, this album is just great, it's very consistent, every record being very solid and replayable, the best ones in my opinion being: The Darkest Part, where Kid Sister's hook is amazing, then after I would say Because, where every feature has a good verse and the beat is great, and my personal favorite, Saltwater, which has Black Thought's best verses, and Conway also raps his ass out.
This LP is easily one of my favorites out of 2022, Black Thought kills it with great flows and bars, and Danger Mouse's beats are purely amazing. I've had this on my "To-Do" list for a while, and I finally listened to it and it didn't disappoint. It's great and if you haven't, listen to it already, give it a try. Now to finish the review off, I'm giving Cheat Codes a Decent 8.
