We are far from the heights of Low's canon (think 1994 "I could live in hope"), which I guess is fair enough: how many rock groups are able to sustain the same quality in their output 20 years apart? While Ones and Sixes is by no means a bad album, I fail to stay engaged during its 57 minutes as the album lacks a certain flow from song to song. Congregation and Into You are my favourite songs at the moment; No Comprende is the catchiest one, but it lost its charm quickly for me.
Massive; catchy; spacious; echoey. Going towards a direction (less rock and more Daftpunkyish) I might not personally like, but you can feel that Kevin Parker is going there deliberately. Let it happen is a showstopper and the 1st half in general is stronger (other highlights being Yes I'm changing, Eventually, The less I know the better). Fascinating to try guessing what can the next step be for TI.
No weaknesses that I could find here. A cohesive little unit of melodies and lyrics: oh boy! how many bits of lyrics got stuck in my mind (Subaru anyone?).
