The Lemon Twigs - Look for Your Mind!
NR

The lemon twigs are on a tear. Leading up to this I was doubting whether they could string three great albums together. The risk of rehashing sounds, song ideas and frankly crafting memorable melodies seemed a bridge too far. Boy was I wrong.

Others have noted the immediacy of half the songs benefitting from a live in the studio approach brings a subtle shift. Yes many of the songs are beautifully arranged and adorned but the energy of the band live now shines through, the twigs are a great ... read more

BRUIT ≤ - The Age of Ephemerality
NR

A tour de force of powerful ,primarily instrumental post rock. Seamless blending classic instrumentation and motifs with pulse raising noise jams this album is a perfect statement for these times. The rage at where the world has arrived at in terms of political cynicism and corporate support of said politicians for pure financial gain oozes from the music. Words were never less necessary.

This was the album fans of the band thought would never see the light of day. Announced in 2010 and then....nothing, until an announcement that Brandon Curtis was joining Interpol as the touring keyboard player leaving the impression that the band was no more and this record and the inability, or unwillingness, to put it out was the proximate cause.

Fast forward to 2020 and the release of awake in the brain chamber and its near universal acclaim as a punchy keyboard and drum driven return to ... read more

A modern Prog masterpiece with an amazing band to help bring these fantastic songs to life. Guthrie Govan's guitar solo on Drive Home, done in 1 take apparently, is one of my favorite guitar solos of all time. Crystal clear, balanced production from Alan Parsons cements this album as a must listen for anyone who loves music with beautiful melodic content and musical complexity. Yes It is a fairly overt homage to '70s prog rock but with none of the excesses that could bring that genre to it's ... read more

Secret Machines - Awake In The Brain Chamber

Awake in the brain chamber marks a huge comeback for the Secret Machines after disappearing with no notice or explanation in 2010. Well we now know the history from various PR for album, but more importantly this is a substantial evolution of the TSMs sound and songwriting. The relentless Krautrock beats are still there, the catchiness amplified and the spacieness is now a texture not a dominant force. Yet this album is still undeniably, the secret machines. Short but relentless in energy ... read more
