Hook Me Up

i struggled so much deciding on a rating with this album. i LOVED the Veronicas when i was young. but fuck, listening to this album now makes me realise how it's genuinely one of the most inconsistent albums i've literally ever heard.

some songs are genuinely the most amazing electro alt-pop bangers i've ever heard, and most are god-awful fillers with absolutely cringe-inducing production - it's literally all over the place with quality. my read is that they were trying to establish a relatively unique alt-pop, genre-bending duet aesthetic with a really ~epic~ sound that was thematically grounded in it's era - Untouched is a perfect example of this, and lives on as one of my favourite singles of all time. however it seems they were put into a cookie cutter, lowest common denominator, cringe electropop sound for many tracks. either that, or indie-rock-wanna inspired ballads.. idk which is worse tbh. it makes the entire project feel so disjointed and awkward. the result is a really hard listen overall, but the highlights are simply amazing and honestly worth the wait.
