Outkast steps it up on their sophomore record with more adventurous and ambitious directions. I really like the spacey textures on this album, as it makes for an airy and sometimes beautiful atmosphere that doesn’t take away from or clash with the booming hip-hop aspects. The writing has gotten a lot more interesting. You could argue that the hooks here aren’t as accessible as their debut, but I think that it gives Outkast a very special style that is not only unique, but distinctive to them. A highly enjoyable experience and it only goes uphill from here.
