This is possibly the greatest emo album, if not one of the best rock albums that i have ever heard in my life. Simply nothing will ever replicate the experience i had when i heard this masterpiece for the first time. It's an album so special that i know the songs all by heart.

I'll admit that albums like this sometimes require a certain angsty, teenager mood to be fully enjoyed, and that was when i first heard this album, and i think that's why i have a fond memory of this thing. Before re-listening to this record, i thought that all the moody and angry vocals and the loud instrumentals would simply not sound the same years later after i matured and grew out of my once young, angry personality, and yet i was absolutely fucking wrong. Years later, this album still holds up to be a flawless masterpiece that sounds as groundbreaking as the day i first heard it.

Front to back, there is not a single song that's NOT a banger or makes the experience fall off musically. Even the interlude "Pheurton Skeurto", while obviously being the weakest track in the whole album, is by all means not a bad track at all. If anything, it's a break after being overwhelmed by the amazing, loud and catchy instrumentation of "In Circles" and "47". Jeremy Enigk's unique vocals on this record are also an incredibly highlight of this whole experience, with him being able to have a contrast of screaming his heart out on "Song About an Angel" to the point of you being to hear his voice breaking and reaching its limit to having incredibly mellow vocals in tracks like "Pheurton Skeurto". It would be a disservice to not mention the absolutely phenomenal drums and the unforgettable guitar in this album that make the experience whole. There's just so much energy crammed in each instrument that make each track memorable on their own. Just a truly groundbreaking and genre defining classic that'll always be floating in my head.

Did i mention how fucking metal the album cover looks? Like holy shit.
