PM Warson is a soul singer from London and True Story is his debut album. The music is best described as vintage retro soul with angular guitar riffs, funky bass and drums, all supported by a pumping soul organ and a soulful backing choir. It's clear where he got his inspiration but it's not all nostalgia, just because he knows how to fuse the old with his own indie/new wave input, an interestingly daring and promising record emerges.
The solo debut of Alicia Breton Ferrer (The Sweet Release Of Death, Neighbours Burning Neighbours). An interesting record full of extremes, from whispering to screaming vocals. Not an easy record, but if you take the time to fathom it, you will discover a lot of beauty. The music cannot be pigeonholed, Avant-garde is perhaps the best way to describe it. An interesting record that continues to fascinate.
Probably one of the best live bands I have ever heard. After 5 years of radio silence, finally a new album. The result is great, the chemistry and magic that the musicians always show on stage is also captured on this album. Lovers of subtle playing, intoxicatingly beautiful melodies, dark ambient or wonderful soundtracks for yet-to-be-made art films will be well satisfied, although heavy guitar eruptions are not avoided either. Intoxicatingly beautiful.
Merope is a quirky band, around Lithuanian singer Indré Jurgeleviciute. On this album, they again know how to touch you with indescribable music. Salos is a melting pot of Classical, Folk, Ambient and Pop. Salos, which is Lithuanian for islands, is a dreamy musical landscape, a colourful archipelago where the voices are beautifully interwoven with atmospheric soundscapes, which continue to haunt.
If I have to name an album that expresses the loneliness of the lockdown period during the corona, it is this one. 9 covers of artists who on the face of it have nothing in common. But because of the way they are interpreted and performed by her, the songs fit together perfectly. One by one, the songs breathe darkness, melancholy and fragility. A gem that reflects the loneliness caused by the lockdown corona pandemic.
