In 2010 Interpol released their self titled record, and surprise! Nobody liked it. Following the absence of their bassist Carlos after he left the band the same year (correct me if I'm wrong). The fact that he left generated a very tense and disjointed feeling in the band that would reflect in the music form and structure of this album, and especially in the cover: A fractured title that shows how separate were each member from each other.

For the past months all I've wanted is to like this album the same as I like their other releases, but it's not even possible at this point, I've already re-listened to this thing plenty of times and each time I barely even discover something new to like in this thing, since it has like four highlights that stand out, which are: Success, the banger "Barricade", "All of the Ways" which gives me a claustrophobic feeling towards the end and the haunting "The Undoing".

But, yeah that's the sad truth about this album, I don't even like tracks like "Memory Serves" or "Lights", which seem to be considered as the highlights in this LP. Most of this album ends up being boring and even lifeless dragged by poor vocal melodies and performances by Paul as such. But apart from the lack of excitement this album also ends up being very hard to digest and dense to the listener.

I like the half of this project, the rest is forgettable and poor. Was kinda sad to see Interpol turn into a way more depressive direction than before (that's impossible I know), but at least the album that would come after this one would cheer the fans a little bit into a more accessible sound and mood: In a few words it would "lighten up the party". But El Pintor's review will come out soon, not yet, but soon...
