Interpol - Antics

"Antics" is a beautiful example of contrast in music: While "Turn On The Bright Lights" feels very claustrophobic and depressive, "Antics" changes the mood into a more optimistic sounding project that won a big mainstream audience with some hits like: Slow Hands, Narc, C'mere and the well known "Evil". After listening to their debut countless times, it felt right to continue their discography with this one and honestly, I was completely disappointed at first, since I really admired their more dark sound and I thought that conceptually it was way more focused than "Antics".

This is one of their most energetic releases to date and it doesn't get credited often for the creativity behind the compositions of the tracks, cause some of these instrumentals and vocals have a very engaging and attractive sound, like for example the song "Narc", which I used to dislike thanks to that weird riff, but have grown to appreciate the great delivery by Paul Banks and he is precisely the high point of this album in my opinion, it's probably my favorite performance by him, cause the vibe really suits his style.

This album has some problems like the flat production, that really plays against the album in a very harming way and the fact that there's a lot of tracks that I don't enjoy much like "Slow Hands" and "Next Exit" which are kinda dull for me (don't kill me). But anyways, this album still is consistent for what it is, it's a simple experience that has some complex moments that caught my attention. Many of my favorites are on here and those include tunes like: "C'mere", "Not Even Jail" and "Evil".
