I get all the critics, mainly the unfiltered and verbose but that's the aspect of this LP that I find fascinating. I think it's meant to be embarrassing, longing, depressing, unfiltered, a depth we have never quite achieved before. And the thing that sells it to me it's the fact that most of the time, like she is on Midnights, she's aware she's being annoying (e.g. : “Teenage petulance” or TTPD title track). Lovely and predominantly well executed concept album about the countless thoughts we experiment in sleepless nights. This is specially well described in tracks like Dear reader or WCS. A shame it wasn't further developped on other tracks. Still a banger. With a little bit of retrospective, we can tell that this premise is often used as a veil to detail what iappened to the narrator maybe 13 nights ago rather than random, sparced, 13 sleepless nights.
Not a great record. Unlike Tortured Poets' vast premiere that excused uneven depth, this album's clear title and symbolic women references beg for sharper focus. Instead, we get tracks about her love story that do not add to the narrative of the album AT ALL.

The soundscapes are insane, and under the veil of terror and unsettling noises lies vulnerable and raw lyrics, accessible to us all.
The historical and cultural lore is also fascinating may I add.
