up close and personal compared to the larger-than-life census designated, featuring the same themes of longing, looming and ever-present dread, disintegrating silhouettes of soured memories, and a life only living for other people (inevitable self-destruction). only jane can continuously write the most heartbreaking lyrics i read that year
not surprised that people don’t like this, but as someone who adores her previous work this feels like an entirely natural progression to me. on first listen the structure feels very polished, and it reminded me a lot of the non-stop remix album. the club bangers interspersed with cool-down periods made each drop that more powerful. this isn’t supposed to be an accessible listen. ambient focused doesn’t mean unfinished, that’s what she was already going for previously.
