I've listened to this album many times but whenever I think about it, I have to go back and listen again to remind myself what was on it. So much of this record ends up blurring together in a fuzzy mess. MGMT have always had a love/hate relationship with the pop roots that launched their careers, but this album marks a moment where the band is stuck in limbo. This music isn't digestable enough for larger audiences nor is it original enough to warrant attention from the rest.
With that said, I don't think it deserves quite the level of criticism it gets. It's not a bad album, just an unremarkable one.
