Ashbeck - CARTISONMYFACE
65

A nice jersey change-up from Ashbeck.

The short B-side drags it down a bit and the replay value is a bit limited. maybe could’ve had a feature, maybe sam wise would’ve fit pretty well

BXKS - FEAR OF ECLIPSE
72

there are dips but it’s mostly a good release from bxks

irish esdeekid

or as some say

CeeDeeKid

irish ug is gaining some traction!

although the beat has far less elements of drill compared to wraith9, with no real hard-hitting bass/808, timed with a drop and hard delivery (which esdeekid has become known for, eg. blacked out like a phantom lol) and more of a synth/ethereal atmosphere in comparison to wraith9's beats, it still mirrors the braggadocious lyricism and dark and thrilling ambiance epitomising esdeekid's work.

there is a lot ... read more

SL’s annual christmas drop is not too bad this time around.

Skepta - That's Not Me

classic, still goes hard

DC - Soldier
65

been a while since we had a classic DC tune.

His introspection and storytelling are always comforting and inspiring, even in a largely melancholic atmosphere which he manifests through his delivery, writing, and beat selection. Although his ostensibly laid-back delivery could easily be taken as defeatist, his work reveals itself as the antithesis of pessimism, and he consequently illuminates importance of acknowledging one’s burdened past in order to keep thriving. One could easily ... read more

Loyle Carner - hopefully !

A sonically cohesive and pleasing album. A very nice and soothing listen, and his lyricism is on point as always. His singing and vocal inflections have definitely improved, but I still prefer his other projects in a direct comparison. This is a great switch up tho, and I feel like he can build on this sound in the future - perhaps even with a longer project that combines the sounds heard across his discography. For me, although atp I have only done one full listen, there are no real standout ... read more

Skepta - Sirens (From Ireland)

just getting around to reviewing this now after rating it, waited almost as long as these two did to drop it 😭

skepta has indeed been on an absolutely crazy run this year and imo he hasn’t really put a foot wrong, everything from promotion to features to tracks has been perfect leading up to his upcoming album fork and knife. while i am not a massive fan of this track, it’s still cool and helps to push finessekid out of the underground and into the mainstream.

after frankly ... read more

contemporary uk hip house⁉️

this one’s a banger for me

Westside Gunn - HEELS HAVE EYES
68

its length makes it almost cluttered, but it ultimately serves its purpose as an intriguing intro to the trilogy.

EINSTEIN KITCHEN is a real highlight. EGYPT and GORO are nice enough cuts as well.

Jim Legxacy - stick

if you told me last year that a song by the goat jim legxacy would be fantano’s second most streamed song of this year i would be crying tears of joy

AND NOW ITS HIS #1 SONG OF THE YEAR 🔉🔉🔉🔥🔥🔥🚨🚨🚨‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️

wow

far from my favourite off the album but still very good

Dave - The Boy Who Played the Harp
85

i think an album like this is so significant that a review will take a long time.

so this is probably gonna be like a thought dump idek

edit yeah it was

also fav tracks are no weapons w/ jim, chapter 16 w/ kano, marvellous, and fairchild w/ nicole blakk.

i will begin by stating that the main critique i hear of this album from mainly American reviewers is that the project lacks a singular purpose or goal, and that the subject matter of his lyricism within the tracks - as well as between ... read more

woah

was not expecting that AM bar to start it off 💀 thought i was listening to aystar or mazza for a second what is going on in merseyside

beat selection elite as always

and why was that outro bah so tough 😭

kwes e - fingers crossed
79

this is very good

i have been a fan of kwes e for a while after getting hooked from the single kapeesh a few years back which is one of my favourite songs of all time. he definitely has a unique, melodic and jerk rap flow which can be hit and miss but he has certainly refined it on this project.
i was very excited to listen to this after the releases of juggin (which deversedly gained some traction last year through the YouTube algorithm), juggin on an autumn evening (which didn't make it ... read more

Odd Future - Oldie

A perfect epitomisation of Odd Future’s legacy.

Jim Legxacy - aggressive

an amazing single with a great catchy hook together with his typical uk sampling of in this instance chip + stellar production and incredible vocals- imo should've been on the album but oh well
outro is sick as well

Headie One - 50s - headiokart remix
90

this is so fun and has been on repeat for a few years for me

it's rare that a uk rap/drill artist works well on house rap and i definitely didn't expect it with headie one, but scruz does a great job here on his remix to create an absolute vibe
