Pinned Review

Lil Supa - C.R.A.C.K.
80

Dark, grimy, and vinyl-textured thanks to the involvement of one of my favorite producers, Castellanos.

Marlon and Jonás go off here. The album achieves cohesion through the word C.R.A.C.K., where each letter stands for a track on the project. But it doesn’t stop there—just like the sound feels pulled straight from horror films, the themes and the way the Venezuelan and Chilean artists develop them also carry that same dark aesthetic.

There are heavy bars here. Maybe ... read more

Lil Tecca - PLAN A

The first half pulls me in; the second half makes me yell, “Just end already!” Human beings need novelty to stay engaged with whatever they’re doing, music included. Tecca delivers that at first with some truly captivating elements: the melodies in the cuts, the flows he pulls off, and that high-energy hook from Don Toliver. The transitions make listening to Plan A a pretty fun experience.

However, it falls apart in the second half by offering nothing more and nothing less ... read more

Tainy & Yandel - DYNASTY
60

Dynasty is a celebration of 16 years in the careers of both Tainy and Yandel. And the number 16 isn’t just there by coincidence — it conceptually and contextually ties the entire project together, mainly referencing the now-famous line: “Capitaneando la nave, Tainy / El que a los 16 años anda en Mercedes, más na' te digo” (“At the helm, Tainy / The one who at 16 drives a Mercedes, I don’t need to say more”). It’s not an album ... read more

Ce Qei - Contra Todas Las Apuestas
40

Ce Qei is a unique figure within the Dominican underground rap scene. However, his shortcomings are glaring here, as he's completely overshadowed by Jotabit’s magnificent soulful production. It doesn’t help that the tracks on this project are so short and lack cohesion; it makes the album feel like just a collection of unfinished songs recorded during a session with Jotabit.

Rochy RD - Ñiño
40

Despite having one of the best songs Rochy has ever written, Ñiño fails to hold the bar — and that's natural coming from a compilation EP. After two tremendous street rap tracks, we're thrown into a forgettable dembow, followed by two diss tracks aimed at the same rapper. Ñiño is all over the place and doesn't seem to know what it wants to be.

Lil Supa - METAL
40

After his intense activity in 2020 with three duo EPs and a solo EP, Supa began developing a writing style based on descriptions. There was always a concept behind it, and what he aimed for was to create an imaginary canvas with his words, guiding how the concept should feel using two- or three-word descriptors. Now in 2025, this style still remains; five years have done nothing but generate disdain in me for this approach, one of the reasons why METAL feels like a rather boring album to listen ... read more
