magic alive is an album to listen to while floating in the clouds. i really liked this one!! beloved paradise jazz was one of the first of its kind of sound i listened to, and this one is no different. honestly i feel like there is a lot more to unpack in this album than I did, so i plan to revisit this in the future to really appreciate the storytelling i know mckinley has. but from what i got from my first listen, it really feels like a moving on album. he speaks a lot about tragedy a lot in this, especially in what I think is an absolutely flawless piece of work which is "listen gentle". he reflects on his past projects and it all really just asks the question "what do I do from here?". and i love that. the final track helps to answer this question in a great closer track too, which i think wraps up the theme of trying to move on with his life. its an impressive piece of work i hope to appreciate more in the future!
overall: pretty great album!
