section 80 is an album to listen to while growing up in the ronald reagan era. the impressive first album from a star that would shine way brighter than this. i love it! i think his voice sounds the most different on this compared to any of his other projects, and it kinda gives it more of an indie feel and not a mainstream hiphop feel which makes the album sound more comforting in a way. i remember first listening to this album because of a video on SAMIDOT, which mentioned kieshas song so i was like "oh okay i didnt think sec 80 was anything important but i guess ill listen to this song" and wow. it really left a mark on me and that made me wanna listen to the whole project. the themes talked about regarding how people around kendrick feel like they have to live their lives to get by following the "ronald reagan era" is really powerful and its a great start to kendricks story. some youtube comment really put it all in better words than i could lmfao

"Sec 80: My hood is fucked up
GKMC: My city is fucked up
TPAB: My country is fucked up
DAMN.: My world is fucked up
MMATBS: I'm fucked up
GNX: Y'all got me fucked up"

really a beautiful piece of poetry
but really, its a great introduction into the life kendrick is so used to based on what hes seen, and then GKMC is a perfect follow up talking about the experiences in detail that made him who he is now. and for a debut rap project, this is pretty damn good.

overall: pretty great album!
