Saint Motel is very interesting to me. They started off with some of the best indie rock I’ve ever heard in Forplay, and overtime were reduced to generic pop slop, with only a few singles being good, out of a sea of garbage. With Symphony In The Sky, it was clear they were still on pop, but they were experimenting and clearly trying to find a new direction with the more orchestral sounds. It wasn’t a great album, but it did great things for them, as they stuck with that sound, and refined it for Afterglow.
The music here is very nice to listen to, and endlessly more consistent than the likes of their 2021 LP.
I think as long as Saint Motel stays consistent and open to experimentation like this, the band will have a solid identity for the future, like they used to in their prime.
