I want to preface this review by saying I have a very personal connection with this album. I've known it for some time, and it's always been my favourite Glass Animals album. I have a sense of familiarity with every song, and have spent some of the best and worst moments of my life with this one.
The name 'ZABA' comes from a book with a similar name 'The zabajaba jungle', hence it's jungle themes, and album art style inspired by that of the book. This inspiration gives the album a sense of direction and purpose with each song, where some songs bring you deeper into the jungle-y feel.
The lyrics are written fantastically, with meaning that is very easy to relate to and build connection with. The instrumentals and vocals are properly psychedelic, catchy, and mesmerizing.
The top three of the album, personally, are Pools, Walla Walla, and Wyrd. Literal chills every time one of those comes on.
I understand how this album might not be someone's thing, but in my opinion, it is a must hear album, and a perfect introduction to psych music, as well as Glass Animals as a band.
