Lit - Atomic

Atomic disappointment (just kidding, Lit has such a low bar that it's tough to disappoint). It's a bland as fuck mediocre album.

Reviewing Lit's discography is a challenge with dubious rewards. They are a chameleon band with no clear pathway to develop or mature their signature sound because a signature sound doesn't exist. As such it is tough to compare albums and inevitably rank them, which is the ultimate goal of this pointless exercise to which I've subjected myself. So anyway, Atomic...is bland as fuck. I'm not sure there's much to write home about here. The sense that I get from this album is that Lit hit it big with the pop punk sound so they tried to repeat that on this album but something went wrong. I don't know if the production team changed or what but this album really feels like they were going through the motions. It's DOA, soulless corporate rock. Uggh. Where it really fails for me is the generic riffs and midtempo beats, which are pervasive on every. single. song.

Recommend checking out Tripping the Light Fantastic over Atomic if you want to dig in a bit beyond A Place in the Sun.

Hits: The Last Time Again, Slip (Aerosmith vibes, like a poor man's Crazy, but at least it piqued my interest), Over My Head (holy hell, an uptempo song, go figure).
Meh: Something to Someone, Lipstick and Bruises, Everything's Cool, Happy in the Meantime, Sunny Weather, Next Time Around, She Comes, Live for This
Misses: Addicted, Drop D (I liked this song at first but holy shit, the verses are fucking Nickelback! I can't get passed it to take the song seriously)
