Sleaford Mods - Spare Ribs

Shocked by all the negativity going on here, this is a distillation of everything that makes Sleaford Mods great. Some fun hooks, love the guest features, and of course the lyrcis are biting as always.

Jeff Rosenstock - NO DREAM

How is it that the most mature progression of Jeff's songwriting resulted in a step back style wise? This is some of the rawest, punkiest shit that Rosenstock's put out in his solo career since I Look Like Shit, in a way that really highlights the complexities and nuance of his GREAT songwriting. There are so many little surprises across this album that completely derailed my expectations. Left turns within the songs themselves, but also in the pacing of the album (seriously, who wasn't shocked ... read more

Car Seat Headrest - Making a Door Less Open

Sadly, I really couldn't connect with this album.

I've not been a huge fan of Will's output since 2016, and even then teens of denial had some high highs and some low lows (unforgiving girl and killer whales are very boring to me), and this album sadly cemented my disconnect with CSH's recent material. The textures are amateurish, and lack any body or ... read more

WOW I liked this album. I went into this still high from listening to Fetch the Bolt Cutters about 30 times in a row and was not expecting to be wowed by another album so quickly, but by the time I was listening to XS I was already hooked. I was recently thinking about how we're due for a wave of 2000's nostalgia (kicked off by Lady Bird, continued by the new Soccer Mommy), and this executes that in the most engaging way.

XS sounds like the best side of Brittany Spears, for it to hop straight ... read more

Elvis Depressedly - Depressedelica

Definitely good, but not the best Matthew has had to offer. Some really lovely moments, both moments of innovation for him along some classic Elvis Depressedly jams. New Love in the Summer Time is a perfect closer and maybe one of my favorite songs he's written - he knows how to end an album on a great love song though (Wastes of Time? C'mon. C'mon. C'mon).
Jane don't you know me is much better on the record than it was as a single.
