Surprisingly thrashier than your average modern Metallica song, but also the most speed metal and Motorhead influenced since their earliest days. This would be a weak point if it were on Kill Em All though, because while not terrible, it's pretty average for Metallica. Tight and proficient performance as expected, and James has not lost his iconic roar over the years, but structure wise it is quite basic for the band, the compressed modern production does not suit them, and it was a bit of an ... read more
"Ayo, this new PTV slaps" is a sentence I did not think I would ever say, but this decade has been full of surprises.
Starts off as a pretty interesting drone piece with some nice dark atmospheric tones. I do think it loses momentum once the percussion comes in though and goes through a couple seemingly random transitions. Recovers with some decent tones and soundplay near the middle, but it loses a bit of steam past this point again. Still though, I will say that it is a fairly experimental composition
I didn't think I'd see the day! As someone who loves Arcade Fire but was deeply repulsed by Everything Now, I couldn't be happier with the first taste of WE. It's heartland rock sound is kind of similar to that of what The Killers was doing this year, but this is the closest they've gotten to the original Funeral Sound in at least over a decade. Reminds me of why I fell in love with the band in the first place
Actually a fun single. But uh... why does this sound almost exactly like an AJR song, but like a good AJR song? I guess that collab really had a mental toll on Rivers.
Why do l like this so much?... I never have been a Bladee fan, which may explain why many seem to be unhappy with this dance pop change in direction, meanwhile I am digging it. On the new album, God stuck out to me especially, because there is something so fun and catchy about it. I love the dance beat, the repetition, and of course the production sounds great. Even the autotune which is still prominent is much more tame than its been in the past. It is a short and simple track, that is ... read more
One that grew on me a lot with the full album. It is an odd single choice, because of the sour melody, it's not necessarily catchy, and is pretty left field. I did a 180, because ny initial reasons for disliking it is exactly why I love it now.
King Gizzard is one of the only bands where it is unsurprising when they drop a new single less than a month after their last album. I could guarentee that when we got the new single, it would be in the style of the synth funk of Intrasport off of K.G., and certainly enough, this is basically that. I did not like that song at all, and actually found it to be annoying, so I was worried for an album like this. This single isn't bad though; the funkiness does seem a bit forced, but it could have ... read more
