a 2 because i laughed about half the time but was appalled the other half of the time
the tea review from rym will always crack me the fuck up
adorable album, kind of a close one to me because it's such early lo-fi that you hear some real rough sounds. very human feeling though... i love it. "fourteen" is by far my favorite here, it's kinda special and sweet. made me cry the first time i heard it, strangely. check it out <3
also if you're trying to find this original 1985 tracklist on spotify, it uses the reissue's full 24 tracks. i made a playlist with the exact songs you need to match the original: ... read more
really love dagger / giant boat. rest of this album is really rough though. broken water / telephone call are the peak of the bad here
what do i even say about an album that saved my life? an album that helped lead me through some of the worst feelings in my life, an album that spoke to me more than any other in one of my most vulnerable times in my life. an album i still revisit constantly because those feelings and that pain i had still resonate throughout my life. it's hard to lose your partner, but what's worse is *losing* your partner. a big difference.

definitely my favorite of these early 1-4 albums. i cannot help but come back to this one the most. i remember being overly excited for this one on the basis that it was "the csh shoegaze album" but it honestly really ain't. there's some of that in "dickless heart" i guess, but not really that much. don't go into this seeking a particular sound like i did the first time, it did sour my first listen quite a bit. it gets noisy but not shoegaze noisy.

certainly a better album than 1/2. some of my favorites in his discography are here, like "portrait of the artist as a young f*g". that song was a huge inspiration for me learning guitar and wanting to make my own music, strangely. i have a vivid memory of 4th of july in 2018 listening to that song, watching fireworks and telling myself that i really wanna make a band. ah, the naivete.
regardless, the first car seat headrest album with any actual structure and songwriting. if 1/2 ... read more
hilariously overhated imo. is it bad in the eyes of his future works? 100%, but i hate narrowly looking at an album like that. gotta remember this is will's first album under this name. he wasn't expecting anything of it. don't think he expected folks 15 years down the line to be scrutinizing this one alongside his strong career. oh well. i actually quite like it and its imperfections. i'm one of those freaks who likes the really weird stuff on here, like "yes ... read more
personally found this to be a lot less interesting and much more grating on the ears than 1. i have little to say that is positive, this album truly is rough. forgiveness for it being such an early album and this was still will just fiddling around with shit for fun. can't hate on the dude for that. "this one time i..." and "...then it will be exactly the same as earth" are the only two tracks here i really cared for, the rest is quite rough. though, i've always ... read more
some real gems in here. if you liked will's numbered albums, i highly recommend checking this out. it's the outtakes of 'em. any csh fan worth their salt really needs to check out "I CAN TALK WITH MY EYES SHUT", that's like a pilgrimage. also a gift. you're welcome. some personal faves off this is "the singles song", "the staying song", and "when i'm here". there is no doubt this one's got some stinkers though. it's ... read more
viciously underrated. i haven't heard an album so solidly put together front-to-back since. one of the hugest inspirations in my life. full of so many different sounds. many chaotic, many comforting, and all-around cryptic. i can't even highlight any song in particular, i love every bit of this album and have been revisiting it constantly for almost a decade now. love this with all my heart <3
i appreciate this version of the album being put up in the front. though the extra tracks added in the 2002 reissue are great, it is missing one of my absolute favorites from broder, "just a kid growing up". ah, still great nonetheless. check out "pneumonia" if you want a great idea of broder's music as a whole. it's a pretty full track that covers so much of his sound in one go. very sentimental to this one.
definitely the roughest fog album. has some great songs with "i have been wronged", "on the gallows" and "we will have vanished" but also has some of the standout worst ones i've heard like "inflatable ape, pt. 3" and "what's up freaks?". this was a weird point for broder, i think he was trying hard to be a bit more appealing and mainstream with this album and instead presents a sound that i can only call alienating. if you're ... read more
