I don't think I've ever felt so seen and comforted and examined by a record quite like When The Pawn. It's difficult to properly put into words the impact its had on me, especially the songs To Your Love, Paper Bag, and Fast As You Can. I'm disappointed by this personally and wish I wasn't, hoping this doesn't sway me much from the new album. I think I just prefer the tightness on HS on R66.
This makes me oddly nostalgic. This isn't exactly what I was hoping for in regards to new Avalanches music, but this has grown on me quickly and I like and respect what they're going for. A play on those older commercials with a blend of corporate flair, I can't help but kinda fw this.
Listen, the beat switch up warrants at least a 7/10 even if it's a bit lackluster otherwise. 😭
